I would strongly suggest having two as back ups just in case. You just never know when one will hit the edge of the counter and it's done. I think drying with the blow dryer is the safest method of drying or at least I would recommend the blow dryer. Waving it is not safe and you will eventually break one, especially after inhaling ammonia for 5-10 minutes. Ammonia is the recommended cleaner for the plates and it works great!!!! Cheap at the $ store. I would also recommend that if you have pets or use cat litter to take your vacuum wand and suck any air debris that may have landed on the front and back of the unit while the plates are out.
