The old one was a generic that did not have Air Bear printed on it anywhere, but was less expensive than the Air Bear when I compared it for this purchase a year ago. I noticed the Air Bear did not have near as many of the v shaped folds that make up the filter surface, so I counted them in my old filter and the Air Bear. The old generic had 21 folds; the Air Bear 13. This mean the old filter had about 60% more filtering surface for less money. The quality of filters (thickness, reinforcing mesh) looks very similar. The old generic needed to be changed once a year, the Air Bear said six to nine months. Bottom line, you are paying big time for the name and gettng a much lower quality filter with the Air Bear. I will not make this mistake again.
