It was MUCH cheaper than buying a new filter, and cleaning the machine was easier to do while its "guts" were removed. The pre-filter is cut to fit perfectly, and installation was simple. Even so, $22 seems a bit steep for a wide strip of thick, white fabric. That's why I gave it only 4 stars instead of 5.
