I purchased a used air machine at a veterinarian's suggestion for my cat who has allergies. The machine had no plates, and will not function without them. I was hesitant to purchase them, because the manufacturer says to only use their plates (which are very expensive compared to these!). I'm extremely happy with these! There were 3 in the package, exactly what I needed to get the air purifier working. My cat's allergies seem to be improving, I'm having fewer asthma symptoms, and the house is less dusty.
