The pre-filter that comes with the appliance is the exact needed size, and rigid, so it's easy to handle. Honeywell filters that I bought through Amazon come in an official Honeywell box, are extremely flimsy and you can practically see through them. They also require that you cut to size from a large sheet. As you work, the sheet scatters tiny particles over the work space. I called the company recommended for filters in the Honeywell documentation and they confirmed that the filters they sell are the same - universal filters that have to be cut to your size - which guarantees a mess as you try to cobble your own filter. Had I known this I would not have bought this purifier, which otherwise works fine.
