I think the filters keep the purifier working much better and therefore the purifier will last longer.

I apparently need the 8x9 inch pads for my FreshAir 1.0/1.5 product, Item Number 70836 - per the re-order guide that came with this product. Just FYI for anybody else viewing this product.

I couldn't even FIND anything less than an $8 in the box stores that would fit + meet tech's direction. More $$ is not always a good thing!

That is true. This filter is 19.5" x 24.5" x 3.75" which just happens to fit exactly in my A/C unit. It seems that in the world of A/C filters the size stated isn't the exact size you get. When I have purchased a 20x25x4 filter at one of the large home improvement stores (blue logo or orange logo, draw your own conclusions) the 20x25x4 filters I have purchased did not fit my unit. Last week when I visited the orange store I measured their 20x25x4 filter and it was considerable larger than 20x25x4 (it's thickness was 4.5"). The bottom line is you need to know the exact size your unit needs and then find the exact measurements of the filter you are planning to buy. In fairness to the manufacturer, the exact size is printed on the filter, but the only photo on Amazon did not show that. I just uploaded a picture of that portion of the filter to help our future buyers.
