This is the only coffee brewer I've seen that puts the filter inline with the boiling water ,most others filter the water when you introduce it to the holding tank. Anyways, I read that this filter is supposed to last around 2 years before you need to replace it. Well, I took a closer look at this so called "filter". You can separate the two sections apart after you remove it from the machine to get at the filter material held between them. It is a tiny thin piece of felt like material, which I'm guessing is embedded with activated charcoal. I don't see how this tiny wisp of material would filter water effectively, much less for 2 years running boiling water thru it every day. Replacement filter If you have their coffeemaker you know what this is. It's shipped from Japan. The reason for 5 stars is it came with a handwritten thank you note, along with a piece of origami. Such a nice touch and a reminder that commerce doesn't have to be soulless.
