I asked them why their web site suggests that it only captures "up to 95%" of particles at .3 microns. He told me it uses a "HEPA type" filter, which is less efficient than HEPA. I asked him what "HEPA type" means, and he said it is similar to a HEPA filter. In reality, "HEPA Type" is a term that marketing people in the air purification industry made up. Good Choice for Air Cleaner I purchased several of these for both me and my daughter to use in bedrooms. They are extremely quiet at low speed and therefore do not interfere with sleep. At higher speeds they can be noisy but not ridiculously so. They do work well to refresh the air and clean it as well. I have to preface that with the fact that we both have the latest available technology on our air handlers to disinfect and clean the air and these units are in addition to that. We all have allergies and sensitivity to odors and allergens and these bump up the efficiency of our central air systems. I ran two of them around the clock after the flu and stomach virus hit and felt that they did an excellent job in cleaning the air. I cannot speak to these being used as stand alone purifiers but I am extremely satisfied and have purchased 6 of them so far and would purchase again.
