Unlike the slightly more expensive 17.5x27x5 Trane Perfect Fit BAYFTFR17M air filter replacements case of 2, this Honeywell filter doesn't have the strip of foam around its outside that prevents air from leaking around the edges. The fit seems to be OK on the sides, but there's a full 1/2" gap at the front that air can flow around. See the uploaded picture for a visual comparison of the two products. However, stuffing some paper or other blocker into the gap would be a reasonable workaround. One note about installation, notice that only one of the sides is sloped. This is to accommodate the asymmetry of the enclosure (in my Trane unit there's a metal stub on the left side). If it doesn't fit one way, try turning it around. Regarding the quality of the filter itself, I don't have enough information to compare it to other products, but at least check out the MERV rating they claim.

Both Home Depot and Lowe's have this item online, but you will be paying a higher price (by about $15 at the time of this writing) for the EXACT SAME PRODUCT. Basically, if you need this filter, which you probably do if you are reading this, then stop your search and get it here. I looked for over an hour (for a filter this thing is pretty expensive, I figured it HAD to be cheaper somewhere else). You will not find a better deal, and this is the ONLY filter that will fit your system.
