It is a little strange that they sell the replacement in packs of 3 when each unit takes 2, so I would have 1 extra. But since I have 2 units, I had to buy 2 of the 3 packs to replace them and then have 2 left over, but then I would still be short 2 in the future for the other one. Ideally they would sell them in packs of 2 or 4 but why 3??? But any case, the filters do replace the original. However, they do say you need to replace the filters every 3 months so it does add up over a year at $12.98 per pack. Since I have to replace 16 filters within a year (since I have 2 units (2 units x 2 filters x 4 times a year) is 16, I need to buy 6 packs which would be $77.88 total for the year. If I knew this ahead of time, I probably would not have bought 2 units.
