This Vicks® universal Cut-to-Fit activated carbon pre-filter helps remove large particles and reduce common household odors such as cooking odors, tobacco smoke odors, pet odors, musty odors, etc. This large 15-3/4 x 48 cut-to-fit activated carbon sheet makes 1 to 4 pre-filters depending on the model. For optimum performance, replace pre-filter every 2 to 3 months. This is an aftermarket filter. Good for many things; sit back and think of things that could (and should) be less smelly. Then, cut and use these. Although they are thinner than what I thought, they are exactly what is described, and at that price are perfectly fine with me. I added them to a group of free-standing air conditioning units that lacked carbon pre-filers and to a top of the line air-cleaner that already has an activated carbon filter (pellet-style), just because in getting rid of smelly feet smell too much is never enough. I plan to use them on some cat-litter boxes, too, as the large pieces are readily cut into whatever shape. They seem to do what they're supposed to.
