The plates are easy to remove and clean up with warm soapy water ... I found the "Alpine Ecoquest" was the Machine to eliminate cigarette smoke smells from the neighbors. The plates are easy to remove and clean up with warm soapy water and a small stiff scrub brush, beyond that I have tried soaking them in Bleach water but it doesn't clean up much better then warm soapy water. They will have black residue on them even after you clean them, as the arching of the electrical plates causes the same effect as lighting O3 in the atmosphere during lighting storms, so to the plates have a charcoal black on them. Totally Awesome I highly recommend this unit.
