Would be great without the whine I just purchased this today at Target. The fan is very quiet even on high speed. Unfortunately it has a droning whine that is present whenever it is on. I can hear it from three rooms away. This is the third large room purifier I have tried that has failed the sound test. | After 2 other Air Purifiers, this one is the real deal. Tried to save money and got an Ion air purifier. It was alright but I decided to upgrade last year to a top of the line Ion one. I had bought Ion since that is what my mother used to use. Never heard of Hepa Air Purifiers. I could only tolerate my Ion air filter to be on for so long. It did something very uncomfortable to the air. Didn't like the way I was breathing with it on. Did some research and found out about HEPA, Carbon, and UV air purifiers. Carbon being more for smoke and chemical vapors, I decided I wanted more of the HEPA and UV style with their concentration of viruses, bacteria, and mold. Well unbeknownst to me this tower had both! UV and HEPA. So I turned it on in my living room and it was amazing. The effect was pretty quick (when set to high power filtration) and then I put it in my room to sleep.
