So after a couple of years -- probably longer than I should have waited -- I replaced both. Note that the air filter is actually on the door of the fridge (at least with mine) and easy to slide out and replace. I just matched up the filter numbers to order the right one. My filter was pretty dusty, too, and kind of stinky, so I should probably do this more often. I don't think I'll replace the water filter again anytime soon, though, as we seldom use it for anything but ice.
