I moved into my beautiful old apartment building in May and shortly thereafter developed a cough that would wake me up at night, and I'd continue coughing for about 30 minutes after waking up in the morning. I assumed it was allergies and ignored it for over a month when I realized that the ceiling near my only air vent was turning black with dirt. I first bought a foam filter from the local hardware store, but it didn't seem to help. Second, I tried a thin "fiberglass" kind of filter, which helped greatly and ended my coughing, but it was blackened almost immediately and I knew I would need something heavier. As the vent is over my door and the grate has been painted over numerous times, I had to find a filter I could simply nail over it that hopefully wouldn't be too much of an eyesore. This fits very well and isn't too bad looking. To top it off, it smells great! I suspect I'll be changing these out every couple of weeks, because if you look at the photo I posted here, you can see... |
