Before, my Alen kept showing it was in the red with my other filter that came with the unit. It was a new filter...but kepts showing RED which is the color to indicate the air is horrible and it will try to fix it up. Well after I put this filter in, the light stopped turning red and stayed a cool blue color for most of the time. The highest I seen the colors go up with this filter is, was the color Orange which means the air is so so... It does take care of smell too. Not sure if it will clean up all the air if you are doing some heaving cooking around the house...but keep it on long enough and it does help neutralize any food smell or other
