There was nothing to assemble but put the lid on and plug it in. I found the instructions simple enough, not sure why others complained. I think the key thing is to change the water frequently and remember that if not changed, icky stuff can grow, filling your air with germs you want to avoid. I just do it on Saturday when I clean my bedroom so it's easy enough to remember. Also, it's important to not just carry this around when it's full, that can make it leak and also get water in the works if you tilt it too much. Color is fine but I don't think it looks like a swan. I'm taking one star off because it seems unnecessarily tall, you can't really tuck it behind something out of sight on a dresser. I tried to hide my old one a bit so it didn't look so medicinal.
