The Home Air Check formaldehyde test determines the total level of the toxic chemical formaldehyde present in your home. As with other Home Air Check products, the formaldehyde test is a professional-grade test offered in an easy-to-use at-home test kit, and the sample is analyzed by an accredited laboratory. Formaldehyde is a chemical commonly used in the manufacture of building materials and numerous household products. At room temperature, formaldehyde vaporizes into the air, potentially causing serious health problems. It is also a by-product of combustion processes. When you burn things like natural gas, wood, gasoline, or tobacco, formaldehyde gas is released into the air. The most significant sources of formaldehyde in homes are: pressed wood products like particle board, plywood paneling, and MDF (medium density fiberboard); foam insulation; carpets; drapery fabrics; resins; glues; cigarettes; and un-vented, fuel-burning appliances like gas stoves or kerosene heaters. Health effects of formaldehyde are eye, nose and throat burning and irritation; nausea; skin rashes; and breathing difficulties in some people. High concentrations of formaldehyde can trigger asthma attacks. Formaldehyde is also considered a known human carcinogen and is classified as a Hazardous Air Pollutant (HAP) by the EPA. Every home should be tested for the presence of formaldehyde, particularly if the home was built or remodeled within the past 5 years. The test kit contains a small sampling pump, and a sampling tube that attaches to the pump to collect the air sample. Once you have collected your air sample, simply mail the pump and sample tube back to us with the box and postage-paid return label provided and we will analyze your sample. In 5 business days you'll receive an email with your results. NOTE: This is a single-use test and must be returned by the date indicated in your kit; you do NOT get to keep the test kit for future use.
Home Air Check Indoor Air Quality Formaldehyde Test Kit
Bought this kit to test the air emissions of the Lumber Liquidators laminate floor which I had installed- the levels were off the charts! This kit is definitely worth it, and is more accurate than the ridiculous badge type free test kit that Lumber Liquidators offered. This is a serious test kit using a small air suction pump, and test strip in a test tube for sampling purposes. The directions were simple and easy to use, and once completed the whole thing gets sent back to the lab in the prepaid shipping package.
