Had been using a generic Merv 11 and had to change them MONTHLY to try to hold asthmatic issues at bay. Sometimes this worked, other times during the year it did not. Had been chastised by my furnace guy that to use a higher Merv would cause the furnace to work harder. So far, using this filter has not been the case. When first installed the Ultra Allergen I was sneezing, with watery eyes and stuffy nose etc, etc, etc. This stopped several days later. I have now had them installed for over a month, and see no reason to replace them at this time. I plan however, to change them every eight weeks vs the twelve weeks as a guideline. Definitely worth a try if you have asthma or if you are experiencing other breathing issues. I also recognize that this filter is not a sole fix for these health issues, but only one part in getting better air quality within your home.
