It replaces the entire cartridge, i.e., the carbon filter, HEPA filter, and pre-filter. That's because it's a few centimeters bigger than the actual HEPA filter from the factory and won't fit in the cartridge. Thus, it's not really compatible, but it's usable. You can re-use the pre-filter and put it into the device too. It fits along with the HEPA replacement and carbon filters. However, out of its holder, it's a little small and a small amount of air will flow around it. But it all fits loosely and I had to use a little tape on the top of the pre-filter to keep everything from moving around and leaking air. This replacement filter was $44 a few weeks ago but is now $79 here on Amazon. The factory only sells cartridge replacements at outrageous rip-off prices. I'm not sure what I'll do next year, maybe I'll shop for a lower-maintenance filter. I like my two WAC9500s, but I don't like... |

| Yes. It. Works. I've had my winix filter for about 4 years, suffer from pretty bad allergies in central Texas. It hasn't failed me yet, and I can attest to this filters' effectiveness! We generally use it to filter a large room, for us it seems to filter around 400 square feet which isn't too bad! Filters out the smells pretty well, we typically have to replace the carbon filters about every 1-3 months, I feel like I can get around a good 9-12 months off this filter depending on air quality! Below is a picture of a new filter compared to the dirty one! |
