The filter itself is coarser, looking like carbon "splatters" than a mesh. It is also 1/8 of an inch too long, so I had to tuck it in slightly to get the filter tray to close. The bag it comes in is awash in coal dust. It looks like it'll work just fine. 4/5 stars for looking inferior and not being cut to size, but at least it's too long rather than too short. If it works well, I will bump it up a rating at a later time and if it fails, I will bump it down in rating. Will test for three weeks before adjusting this review.

I am sure the filter works as well as the original I replaced. However, the light on the purifier indicating I needed to replace the filter has not gone out. I removed and replaced the filter numerous times, turned the purifier off over night to see if the light would reset. It has not. I will order the manufacturers filters and see if the light goes out when I install that one. UPDATE: User error. There is a process to reset the indicator light. Light reset and remains off. Filters work perfectly.
